Thank you for your email today on Committment. Just last week I was journaling the difference for me between accountability and committment. See, for me, an Accountability is not as effective as a Committment. I can own up to being Accountabile for doing or not doing something. SO in that respect there is some leeway to not follow through with Committment. Committment, on the other hand, leaves only one question. Am I Committed or am I merely Interested? Because I can be Interested and still Accountable to do or not to do. However, if I am Committed, then my Accountability falls in line to support my Commitment.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read. I'd love your thoughts...

My personal experience is that a high performance team is only as good as the leader who created and managed it. Hiring for performance and talent as well as developing for performance and talent are only a part of the key factors in high performance teams. In addition, providing clear direction, ensuring accountability, monitoring performance, giving respect and acknowledgement for a job well done, treating all fairly and operating with integrity will ensure loyalty and longevity to the team, leader and company. It is these last six factors that will either break or make the team.

Great article. I certainly can relate to Randy's experience with cold calling but I still have alot of affirmations to work through as the fear is still there everytime I pick up the phone! Thanks for sharing.

Tell me this. Is there true "success" outside of obtaining a leadership position? Everyone is so focused on leading like it is an especially good thing. What makes it so special?

Great concepts. Also, consider reading the works of John Boyd and Chet Richards. Boyd had three distinguished achievements in his Air Force career, superior fighter pilot, father if the F-16 and FA-18 and creator of the OODA loop first employed in fighter pilot tactics and later by US Marine ground forces.

The OODA loop empowers the lower ranks to act without waiting for those above to issue orders. Could be an interesting concept when combined with Captain Abrashoff's leadership principles.

Congratulations on your work with the navy, Susan! It's reassuring to know they're in good hands! Sounds like an interesting project and leadership development is definitely continuing to be contribution to our society, given the reports on missing cognitive abilities. Good luck! Susi

Thanks, Timi. as you know well, there is power in empowering leaders through learning and development.
When the "executives" are the primary drivers of learning, the organization is unstopable.
